Physical activity benefits the body and mind, and exercising in the morning is one of the best ways to ensure a healthy and productive day. Instead of staying up late studying and sleeping in, discover the benefits of an early morning workout.

Don’t doubt yourself just yet. With a little motivation and practice, you can do it! There are plenty of easy ways to start your day off with physical activity. Check out a morning spin class, go for a walk or run, get started with strength training or do some light stretching. The opportunities are endless, and your health and final exam grades will thank you.

Remember, everyone’s schedule and routine is different. Your day isn’t ruined if you don’t have time in the morning. If you can’t exercise early, find a time to move and be active.

Check out these benefits of an early morning workout:

  1. Optimize energy. Have you ever heard of a runner’s high? Physical activity creates a burst of energy, caused by an increase in metabolic rate and blood and oxygen flow. Exercising in the morning can increase energy throughout the day.
  2. Increase focus for a long day of studying. Studies show that physical activity can improve concentration and memory.  Some studies suggest that regular exercise may promote brain cell production.
  3. Feel good throughout the day. Physical activity also boosts mood. Reduce and hold off anger, tension, depression and anxiety all day long.
  4. Start your day with greatness. When you exercise in the morning, you are setting a standard to have a productive day. You probably would still be sleeping if you hadn’t woken up to work out. Take a moment to revel in how accomplished you are!
  5. Avoid wasting time. Avoid waiting for machines by getting to the gym early. Your workout and your day will be more efficient.
  6. Set the pace for the day. Those who participate in morning workouts tend to keep up with long-term wellness goals and make healthier choices throughout the day, like eating breakfast.
  7. Sleep better. Getting into a morning exercise routine can help create a natural body rhythm, making it easier to fall asleep at night. Exercising too late in the day can actually stimulate your body, making it harder to fully relax for quality sleep.
  8. Have more time to relax. Chances are you will have extra time in the morning you didn’t have before. Enjoy these moments to yourself. Take your time getting ready, make a healthy breakfast, plan your day, or meditate.
  9. Get a better workout. The day can put a lot of strain on your body and your mind. You will have more willpower and strength in the morning to push through that tough workout.
  10. Reduce excuses and scheduling conflicts. Avoid having to choose between your wellness and studying. Getting your workout out of the way ensures plenty of time for studying and relaxation in the afternoon.

Whenever you decide to workout, remember that every effort helps on your road to wellness.

One thought on “10 Reasons To Exercise in the Morning

  1. I love this post. I always try to encourage my clients to get their workout in first thing in the morning if they can. When I could do morning workouts everyday it just got me started off right :). Now I teach fitness classes during the day, so I don’t really do morning workouts anymore, I definitely miss it.
