On the set of John Legend’s “You and I” music video, 63 women answered the question, “what do you see when you look in the mirror?” From cancer survivors to pre-teens, each woman has a unique perspective, and although they’re individual beauty shines, they suffer with self-acceptance at one point or another. This biggest takeaway I got from the video is that ideological ideas of beauty and body image exist because society behaves like they exist.
National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (NEDAW) was a month ago, but self-acceptance should be a focus every day. It is time keep up the fight against body criticism and accept ourselves and others.
Watch the video, listen to each woman’s experience and discover enlightening ways to overcome poor body image.
What are your impressions of the women after watching the video? Now, reflect on yourself and your individual beauty. Has your answer to the question changed?
