Welcome to the University of South Florida’s official Wellness blog! Our Wellness Department has a lot to offer and I can’t wait to share its resources with you. To start off, we have seven departments to serve your wellness needs: Campus Recreation, Counseling Center, Student Health Services, Student Outreach And Support, Victim Advocacy and Violence Prevention, and Wellness Education. Follow us to read more about what our departments offer as well as about topics ranging from the basics of mental health, nutrition, and exercise, to the more complex areas of current health fads and concerns, healthy relationships, and motivational stories.

I am Krystal Lowe, the current author of this blog. I am a senior double majoring in Communication and Public Health and I strive to be as healthy and happy as I can be. Outdoor adventures and meal prepping are a couple of ways I try to keep myself active and well-nourished despite my hectic schedule. I hope to inspire you all to join me on this journey to wellness and to bring your friends along with you. It makes the journey much more fun, after all.

Now I’d like to hear from you! What health topics are you interested in? What is holding you back from your health goals? Is there anything you would like to share about your journey to wellness? Comment below and your topic may be featured. If you are interested in being a guest blogger, don’t hesitate to contact me.

  1. Hi Shannon! It can be hard to go to college and stay fit. I know I had that issue in college. Working and going to school full time made staying fit my last thought. Thank God my senior year I started running, and took better care of myself.

Have you always been a vegetarian?

    1. Hi Jared! Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I am still getting used to this blogging thing 🙂

It definitely is, and it gets harder with each year! I have not always been a vegetarian, but I started about 10 years ago!

      1. No worries Shannon! I forgive you! 😛

It does get harder to stay in shape as we get older, but it is worth it in the long run. What made you want to become a vegetarian? Do you think about not being one?

  2. Abby, Thank you for such educational blog. We love what you are doing to educate our young community in making more educated decisions when in it comes to medical care. It is important for students to also know there is other options for after hour medical care (after 5PM, weekends and holidays) I would love to connect with you and share information regarding AvantGarde Urgent Care, a local-physician-owned urgent care located within miles of USF. We would love for you to visit our facility so you are able to experience yourself the convenience and benefits of visiting a locally-owned urgent care as opposed to a large chain urgent care/ hospital ER.
